Because highland dance is so strenuous and repetitive, dancers often develop muscle imbalances that can lead to overuse injuries. Fit for Reel by Studiofit® workouts are designed to eliminate muscle imbalances and keep dancers performing at their best.
Fit for Reel by Studiofit® was created with two goals:
Cross-training To provide cross-training workouts to help dancers improve their fitness level and enhance their dance technique.
Educating Teachers and Parents To educate teachers and parents about dancer training with proper body mechanics and appropriate strength and flexibility exercises. Highland dancers, their parents, and teachers share a passion that the correct training program can lead to a long and prosperous dance career.
Fit for Reel by Studiofit® was built on these core values Consistency, Dedication, and Passion
My Journey as a Dancer
Growing up as a competitive highland dancer, Sandy never thought much about overuse injuries or proper body mechanics during movement. It wasn’t until 10-15 years later of still dancing with the same intensity and drive that led to numerous bouts of shin splints, achilles tendonitis, and plantar fasciitis when she knew she needed to change her training focus.
Wanting to continue as a competitive dancer, Sandy turned her focus to training smarter and learned the importance of recovery and rest, while improving her overall fitness level through targeted strength training, body mechanics and alignment. She has taken her knowledge as an experienced dancer and certified personal trainer to develop different methods of fitness training, known as Fit for Reel by Studiofit®.
One of the things I like most about the Fit for Reel® videos is that they provide an ongoing challenge. Sandy provides a wide range of modifications and difficulty levels for the exercises so that dancers can continue to push themselves to the next level every time they do the video. So many exercise videos are static -- you play them and get the same workout every time. But Fit for Reel® is still providing me with a new challenge after a year and a half of doing it!" - K.H., Canada
